Began consulting practice in March 2013 after retiring from a large, vertically integrated forest products company. Focus of consulting practice is timber inventory, management plans, timber harvesting, timber security and timber sales.
Education:
BS Forestry, minor in Wildlife Management; MS Forest Engineering and Economics, Louisiana State University. Certified Technical Service Provider (TSP) with the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS).
Experience:
40 years in forest industry. Experience in field forestry, genetics, strategic and tactical planning, economic analyses, advanced silviculture, road building and maintenance, geographic and management information systems, scaling and utilization, timber harvesting, SFI and BMPs, timber and timberland security, development of management plans, forest inventory and appraisal.
Success story:
After final harvest on 160 acre tract, absentee landowner (who inherited the land and had never been on it) contracted with me to evaluate the opportunities available to them. We developed a detailed, 40-year management plan, site prepared the land, planted it and controlled herbaceous vegetation. We also applied for and received NRCS cost share assistance, which paid for the site prep, planting and weed control. The landowner had no idea of what to do with the land, and we successfully established a healthy, vigorous forest that will provide recreation and income to their children and future grandchildren.
