Rapides Parish Extension Updated:11/2021

Rapides is among Louisiana’s largest parishes and is known for its central location. It stands midway between the Texas and Mississippi borders, and halfway between Arkansas and the Gulf of Mexico. As a result, it represents a sort of cultural crossroads in Louisiana. Here, French culture dissolves into an Anglo-Saxon culture with deep roots.

Agriculture and Natural Resources

County agents conduct pesticide recertification training, allowing agriculture producers to be come certified as private pesticide applicators.

Master Cattle Producer classes were taught covering beef and forage production.

Agents conducted Worker Production Standard sessions for farm and nursery employees.

Cotton, soybean and corn field days were held for producers to view demonstration and research fields.

Master Gardener classes were taught that covered all aspects of plant culture.

Three hundred Rapides Parish producers receive forestry education and information from AgCenter agents and specialists.
