Mission
Providing leadership in sustaining the economic, environmental and social benefits of the South's forests. We work together to identify and address existing and emerging issues and challenges that are important to southern forests and citizens.
What we do:
- Promote sound forest management practices.
- Provide the southern perspective on national issues, policy development and legislation that affect priva...te forests.
- Facilitate regional consistency on critical activities such as suppressing wildfire, insects and disease, protecting water resources and reforesting the land.
- Coordinate state delivery of federally-funded forest landowner assistance programs.
- Advocate funding for the implementation of state and federally-funded forestry programs.
- Support research that enhances sustainable forestland management.
- Promote prescribed burning, fire prevention assistance and assistance to volunteer fire departments.
- Promote improvement of forest health.
- Provide response and recovery assistance for disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes and ice storms.
- Encourage diverse and dynamic markets for forest products.
- Encourage retention and expansion of forestland for public and private sector benefits.
- Build partnerships with other agencies and organizations in sustainable forest management.
- Keep audiences informed of the status and condition of forestland in the South.
