Evangeline Parish Extension Updated:11/2021

Evangeline Parish is widely noted as a melting pot of various nationalities that settled this area. Its rich French, Spanish, German backgrounds are major influences on today's culture. The parish was originally part of St. Landry Parish. After much effort on the part of local citizens, in 1911 the area was separated from St. Landry and Evangeline Parish was created. The parish hosts a variety of annual festivals and Mardi Gras events and is home to Chicot State Park. Major industries include agriculture, oil, medical care, manufacturing and apparel.

Agriculture & Natural Resources

By attending AgCenter production meetings, field days and clinics, Evangeline crop and livestock producers gain knowledge and understanding of recommended varieties, herbicides, insecticides and fungicides. These producers learned the most-efficient, economical and environmentally friendly methods, materials and application procedures called Best Management Practices. By using these practices, productivity and efficiency are increased and negative environmental impacts are decreased.
