There are 44 Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD) in Louisiana. SWCD’s provide conservation planning services to landowners within their individual districts. The Dugdemona SWCD is located in the heart of the “Piney Woods Country”. The Dugdemona SWCD was established March 25, 1939, and covers all of Jackson and Winn Parishes, as well as the portion of Caldwell Parish west of the Ouachita River. The District covers approximately 1,812 square miles. We are committed to the conservation movement, constantly striving to find new and innovative ways to promote conservation and encourage conservation on the ground.
Our district offers an abundance of wildlife habitat, numerous nature trails, lakes, streams, ponds, a national forest, a State Championship Bass Lake, a state park, prime forestland, pastureland, and numerous diverse industries which includes timber, a rock quarry, to ice cream cones, and a local Farmers’ Market.
The Dugdemona Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors are comprised of five board members. Beginning in February of 2012 the Board will meet the second Thursday of each month at 10:00 a.m.
The meetings are open to the public and interested parties are encouraged to attend.
