General practitioner, Dr. Amy Dilger Lea said she wanted to be a veterinarian while still in kindergarten. “As long as I can remember, I knew I wanted to work with animals,” she says. While still a teenager, she volunteered at the Missouri Wildlife Rescue Center. She’s been caring for pets at Magazine Street Animal Clinic since 2007 and loves the advanced care and proactive medicine she can offer here. Dr. Amy has special training and surgical expertise in the care and treatment of exotic pets, including, but not limited to: ferrets, rabbits, rodents, and reptiles. A native of Missouri, Dr. Amy attended the University of Missouri-Columbia and majored in Biology and Pre-Veterinary Medicine. She received early acceptance into the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Veterinary Medicine and was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. Dr. Amy went on to complete an internship at Florida Veterinary Specialists from 2003 to 2004. There, she trained under veterinary specialists and performed extensive emergency work and completed special electives in exotic animal medicine. Recently she has pursued continuing education into the areas of advanced surgery, dental therapies, and backyard poultry medicine. Feline medicine, pediatrics, and exotic pet care are among her many professional interests. Dr. Amy is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association, and the Southeast Louisiana Veterinary Association.
